18th International Congress of Christian Archaeology early Christianity between liturgical practice and everyday life
Belgrade, 2–6 September 2024
The Institute of Archaeology, Belgrade, will host the 18th International Congress of Christian Archaeology in 2024. The congress has a special place in the fields of Early Christian archaeology and Late Roman studies, with a tradition established in 1894. The Congress will be organised in cooperation with the main institutions of protection, culture and education from the Republic of Serbia, such as the National Museum of Serbia and the Faculty of Philosophy of the Belgrade University. It will provide an excellent forum for the promotion and presentation of Christian cultural heritage, together with a thematic exhibition that will be organised at that time at the National Museum of Serbia in Belgrade and the excursion to Sremska Mitrovica – the Late Roman capital of Sirmium which hosted emperors, where church councils took place and which was home to many martyrs.
The Congress will present a broad range of topics stemming from its title, organised as follows:

II GENERAL THEMES

Epigraphy and prosopography
Urbanism and topography
Sculpture, painting and mosaic
Minor arts and numismatics

VII CLOSING KEYNOTE LECTURE
The collective monograph (Proceedings) will be published after the Congress, containing both oral and poster presentations.
The Congress will be organized at two venues: The Faculty of Philosophy of the Belgrade University and The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. They are located in the very centre of the city, in the pedestrian zone and close to many hotels that can be reached on foot in ten minutes, and are equipped with computers, projectors, and audio equipment. The welcome reception shall be held at the National Museum of Serbia and the City Hall of Belgrade.
The length of lectures is restricted to 20 minutes. Each participant should give no more than two papers in total, either lectures and/or posters. Posters must be printed by the participants, in A1 format (841 x 594 mm: portrait format). The abstracts of no more than 300 words, required for both oral and poster presentations should be submitted between 1 May and 31 December 2023. The abstract form will be uploaded soon on the Congress website (http://www.18ciac.com/). The Congress languages will be Italian, English, French, German and Spanish. The participants are kindly recommended to prepare the texts of their PowerPoint presentations in English independently of the language of the oral presentation.
The organisers will pay special attention to the encouragement of young researchers – PhD students – to participate in the Congress, through either oral or poster presentations. A reduced registration fee will be available for them. The possibility of awarding ten grants is also considered for PhD students. The requirement for the grant would be the excellence of their submitted abstracts and letters of recommendation from their professors/mentors
